Frequently Asked Questions
Starting something new can bring up a lot of questions.
We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help you feel comfortable, informed, and confident before your first class at Firebird Pilates.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to contact us directly.
Do I need Pilates experience?
Not at all. Many of our clients are completely new to Reformer Pilates in Stuttgart and begin with little or no previous experience. Our classes are intentionally designed to feel approachable, supportive, and beginner-friendly. We focus on layered progressions and movement education so you can build confidence gradually over time.
Am I fit enough to start?
Yes. You do not need to already be strong, flexible, coordinated, athletic, or experienced to begin. Our classes are built around progressive movement systems, meaning clients can work at the level that feels appropriate for their body and confidence.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in easily. Grip socks are mandatory for hygiene and safety purposes. We recommend clothing you feel comfortable stretching and moving in without restriction.
Are classes taught in English?
Yes, all classes at Firebird are taught in English. We created Firebird to support both the international and local community in Stuttgart with approachable, English-speaking reformer Pilates classes.
What makes Firebird different?
At Firebird, we approach Pilates differently from many traditional studios.
Our classes combine:
science-backed Pilates
progressive overload principles
movement education
layered instruction
strength-focused movement
supportive coaching
Rather than focusing purely on aesthetics or fast-paced choreography, we prioritize:
movement quality
foundational strength
long-term physical resilience
confidence through movement
The goal is helping clients move better, feel stronger, and build sustainable relationships with movement over time.
What does “layered movement” mean?
Exercises at Firebird are taught progressively through different levels or “layers” of challenge. This allows clients to: move at a level appropriate for them, build confidence gradually, progress safely, and improve movement quality over time.
Rather than expecting every person to perform the same variation immediately, our classes are designed to feel adaptable and supportive.
Is Firebird beginner-friendly?
Very much so. Many people feel intimidated by reformer Pilates before starting. We intentionally designed Firebird to feel welcoming, calm, supportive, educational, and approachable.
You do not need prior Pilates experience to feel comfortable here.
What if I have pain or injuries?
Our instructors use progressive teaching methods and layered movement systems designed to help clients move safely and confidently.
If you have specific concerns, injuries, or health considerations, we recommend contacting us before class (hello@firebirdpilates.de) so we can help guide you toward the most appropriate starting point.
Is reformer Pilates good for posture and strength?
Yes. Strength-based Pilates can help improve posture, mobility, stability, coordination, body awareness, and foundational strength. Our classes are intentionally structured to help clients build strength and movement quality progressively over time.
Will Pilates help me become more flexible?
Mobility and flexibility often improve naturally as clients build strength, coordination, and body awareness through movement.
At Firebird, we focus on helping clients develop balanced, sustainable movement capacity rather than simply chasing flexibility alone.
What should I expect from my first class?
You can expect clear instruction, supportive coaching, beginner-friendly progressions, movement education, a calm and welcoming environment, and strength-focused movement. The goal is helping you feel comfortable while gradually building confidence and familiarity with the reformer.
How early should I arrive?
We recommend arriving around 10 minutes before your class so you have time to settle in and familiarize yourself with the studio.
